How to remove black stripes on the monitor. How to remove black bars on the sides of the screen in Windows? How to remove black bars on the sides of the screen

Many believe that the time of movie theaters, game rooms and concerts is coming to an end. Now anyone can create all this at home, on a computer or on a portable device. Now there are many services with music, the latest films and the most interesting games. They can be used directly through the browser or downloaded and saved to your computer. However, certain incidents do happen. Content is not always well suited to a particular computer, so there may be cases where the image on the sides of the screen is limited by unnecessary side bars. This could be in a game or movie, or simply while using other resources. Naturally, the question arises: how to remove black bars on the sides of the screen? There are certain manipulations and settings that can solve the problem. But we’ll talk about this after it becomes clear why and under what circumstances these very lines arise. First, let's look at the situation with computer games.

Black bars in games

When launching some interesting game in full screen mode, the user notices that the program is loading, but there are black margins on the sides, stealing part of the game space. Where do they come from?

Such stripes appear in games in the following cases:

  • the parameters of the game itself are incorrectly configured and the resolution is inadequate for the aspect ratio of the monitor;
  • The video driver behaves incorrectly;
  • virus attack.

How to remove black bars on the sides of the screen in games? To do this, you need to go through the indicated possible problems and find the real one. Therefore, first you need to go to the game settings and try to set different screen resolution options, and also try to disable “unfamiliar” game modes by simply unchecking the boxes. If it doesn’t help, then you need to move on and download the latest version of the driver from the official website of the video card manufacturer, install it and restart the computer. If this was the reason, then everything will work and the problem will disappear in the game. But if the stripes do not go away, then there is a high probability of damage to the operating system system files by virus attacks, which can be corrected either by inviting a specialist or by reinstalling Windows.

Remove sidebars in video players

If everything is clear with games, then there are similar situations with watching movies on computers. Your favorite movie starts, but suddenly, part of the screen on the sides is simply “eaten up” by these black stripes. Why did they appear here?

There may be several options:

  • the format of the downloaded movie does not match the monitor screen resolution;
  • The video player is not configured correctly;
  • again, a problem with the video card driver;
  • Incorrect operation of codecs.

How to remove black bars on the sides of the screen when watching movies? Here, too, you need to go through the reasons and use the selection method to find the problem. This means that first we study the data about the file containing the movie. On the corresponding file icon, you need to right-click and select the “Properties” menu. Then go to the “Details” tab, where you can find information about the resolution of the film.

If the file is good, then go to the settings of the player you are using and look for the “Video” tab. There should be Aspect Ratio and Crop settings. You need to try different aspect ratio modes (for widescreen monitors this is usually 16:9 and 16:10), and also switch cropping modes.

If all else fails, you can use the method of reinstalling the video card driver or find a newer codec package (preferably from K-Lite or Shark). There are, of course, other cases that require separate consideration by specialists on site. They will already tell you how to remove the black bars on the sides of the screen.

Setting up the driver

After considering the possible options for the appearance of black bars in games and movies, it becomes clear that the driver may be the cause. We'll tell you below how to remove black bars from videos and games by reinstalling the driver and setting up video card utilities.

As already mentioned, software for devices should be found on the official website. A program corresponding to the system bit size is selected, downloaded and installed. After this, you need to restart the computer. This may be enough, or it may not be enough. Therefore, we remove the black bars on the sides by configuring the video card utilities. For GeForce it is Nvidia, for AMD it is Catalyst Center, and for integrated video cards it is usually Intel Video. Each such utility has the ability to adjust the resolution and aspect ratio. Here you need to try different combinations and restart your computer.

Setting up the monitor

If the previous tips did not help, then there is a high probability that the monitor itself is not configured correctly. How can I remove the black bars on the sides of the monitor in this case?

First you need to find the Auto button on it and just press it. In 90 out of 100% of cases this usually helps. But if there is no result, then go to the “Monitor Menu”, find the “Position/Size” tab and manually change the width of the screen, increasing it to the sides. The problem must be resolved.

How to remove black bars on the sides of the monitor

As a rule, most games select the resolution and image format automatically, based on data about your hardware. If you suddenly have black bars on the sides of your monitor in Dota 2, then it is important to know how to properly fix this problem and remove them, but you should not rush to act immediately, because there may be several reasons for this.

Diagnostics

First of all, it is necessary to clarify what the origin of the black stripes is and whether they are located only on the sides.

If the stripes run across the entire surface of the monitor and ripple, regardless of whether you are in a game or not, then the problem is in the monitor itself or the video card, which means the equipment needs immediate repair or replacement.

In the case when stripes appear only on the sides of the screen, there has been a failure in the graphics system settings, namely:

  1. Mechanical screen adjustment. An incorrect setting may have occurred, after which black stripes appeared on the sides.
  2. There is a problem with the video card settings. If the drivers are installed incorrectly, a display error or even a reduction in the available resolution range may occur.
  3. Incorrect game settings. Black bars on the sides of the monitor may be a result of the game resolution not matching the one set by the system, so you can remove them with a couple of clicks.

Of the listed situations, only the first one is scary, because in it the black stripes cannot be removed with the settings, but even in this case the cause may be the breakdown of a cheap cable, and not an expensive widescreen display.

How to fix

When thinking about how to remove black stripes on the sides of the monitor, first determine which of the reasons can be attributed specifically to your situation (if this is impossible, just try all the methods in turn):

  1. Set the Dota 2 launch parameters according to your screen resolution. This can be done using the parameters –w XX –h XX, where w and h are the width and height, respectively. This method will simply stretch the image so that it fills the screen completely.
  2. Start auto-adjustment. The monitor can fix problems on its own based on the data it receives from the video card. It is important here that the video camera itself works correctly, otherwise the set parameters will be incorrect.
  3. Set up the video card control center. Both Nvidia and Radeon release additional software for their graphics cards that allows for more fine-tuning. As a rule, the item you need is called “Display in full screen” - it will help eliminate the problem. In some cases, in order to completely remove the black bars on the sides, you need to restart the computer.
  4. Reinstall the drivers. If the latest drivers are not installed for the video device or if they are missing altogether, then you need to download them from the manufacturer’s website.
  5. Switch the connector. Sometimes, absent-mindedly, gamers connect screens to an integrated video card instead of a discrete one, but it has completely different display parameters. In this case, you don’t have to do any magic, just plug the wire into the desired socket.
  6. Select the desired resolution in the game. For Dota 2, matching the selected resolution with the system one is the key to a correct picture, and this is done in the settings.
  7. Select the in-game image format. The 4:3 and 16:9 formats are significantly different, which is quite noticeable on large monitors.

When you decide to apply all your knowledge on how to remove black bars on the sides of the screen, find out the following points:

  1. What resolution is recommended for your monitor?
  2. What is the limit of image quality on your graphics card?
  3. What is your format - 16:9 or 4:3?
  4. Are the drivers up to date?
  5. Will there be lags if the resolution in the game is set to the same as in the system?

Once all the necessary information is received, troubleshooting will be elementary and will not take much time. The most radical methods are a complete reinstallation of the system and replacement of the monitor with video, but they are almost never required.

Important! You should also make sure that the image is calibrated and positioned exactly in the center.

How to remove black fields on the monitor if the above did not help?

  1. Right-click on an empty area of desktop space.
  2. A context menu will open in which you need to select the “screen resolution” section.
  3. You will see a window with four different tabs in front of you, you need to go to the “Monitor” tab.
  4. Find “Monitor Settings” and set a different frame refresh rate, up or down.

These manipulations can help you solve the problem.

  1. Disassemble the system unit using a Phillips screwdriver and disconnect the video card from the motherboard.
  2. You need to remove the cooling from the extracted circuit. We pick up the device and go to the kitchen stove.
  3. Turn on the burner and hold the part with tweezers higher above the fire. The chipset must settle onto the entire structure.
  4. Cool the component and check. You can also use a hair dryer for this method.

Now you know how to remove black bars on the sides of your monitor in four different ways. Obviously, without establishing the cause of the defect, you will have to resort to any of them at random, but in any case, you will not make things worse. Use the tips above and you will succeed!

When watching some movies and TV shows, the viewer is often irritated by the dark areas framing the image. Let's figure out why they appear and how to remove black bars at the top and bottom, as well as on the sides of the screen. From the article you will learn which video editor allows you to do this quickly and with minimal effort.

Why do black areas appear?

To figure out why a horizontal or vertical frame appears on the screen, and how to remove black bars on the sides in a video, you need to study the shooting standards a little.

All modern video products are presented in 3 popular formats: 4:3, 16:9 and 21:8 (24:10). When playing widescreen movies on standard 4:3 monitors or TVs, there will be blank areas along the top and bottom edges that prevent the image from compressing properly. And vice versa - a video shot in 4:3 format will not be able to be displayed correctly on 16:9 monitors. The “empty” space on the sides is filled with dark stripes.

Black bars on video can be either horizontal or vertical

Often these lines do not interfere with the perception of the video, however, if the defect causes discomfort when viewing, you can easily get rid of the problem using special software.

How to remove black areas in a couple of clicks

Makes it possible to remove black bars in a matter of minutes and get a full picture on the entire screen. To do this, you can go in two ways: automatic - when creating a new project from scratch, and manual - when editing and editing.

★ Automatic method

It is the simplest, all changes are made in auto mode, you do not need to thoroughly understand how to remove the black stripes on the sides. The algorithm of actions is simple:

  • run the program, choose to create a new project;

Create a new project

  • in the menu that opens, set the required aspect ratio;

Select the desired format

  • add file(s) to the time panel;

Drag the video to the timeline

  • save the changes and configure the conversion settings.

Decide on the format to convert

If you are working with several different files within the same project, the automatic method is not the best option for removing blackness, since the utility calculates average values, which are not always optimal.

★ Manual method

This method allows you to remove black stripes on the sides, top and bottom using "Cropping". Work is done on each video fragment separately. In this case, even if parts of the film are shot with different aspect ratios, by doing so, you can bring them to a single standard.

To perform manual cropping, you must adhere to the following algorithm:

  • launch “VideoMONTAGE”;
  • add file(s) to edit by dragging them from the viewport onto the artboard;
  • go to the tab "Editing" and select "Crop";

Use the Crop Video command to select the cropping area

  • find the required aspect ratio in the provided list or set your own parameters;
  • mark the part that will be saved, leave the black lines outside the selection boundaries;

Set the proportions and select the desired area

  • save changes.
The frame can be moved, stretched or compressed using the mouse. This will automatically change the aspect ratio. The good thing about manually setting the dimensions is that many films already have a basic 16:9 projection, so to remove empty areas you just need to select an arbitrary aspect ratio and stretch the frame to fit the actual image. Similar manipulations are performed in the case of removing the side frames.

Cropping in manual mode allows you to view it on devices with a 4:3 resolution if the source fragment has a resolution of 16:9 or more. To do this, image fragments that have no value are removed. As a rule, these are the extreme parts of the shooting location - landscape, studio, scenery.

The program will allow you to remove both horizontal and vertical stripes from the video.

The dimensions of the sides can be set manually, by moving the borders with the mouse and focusing on the values located in the line "Crop Options", and using semi-automatic mode. In this case, the user can choose to set the proportions:

  • source file;
  • 16:9 screen;
  • 4:3 screen.

In the tab "Cropping" You will find a number of additional tools that will allow you to change and improve the appearance of the image in one click. Among them:

  • enlarge or reduce the frame. If black bars are displayed in the preview area, you can zoom them out of the border, and then set a crop frame to the part that is needed for saving;
  • shift horizontally and vertically. As a rule, the option is used for minor movement if the object does not fit within the specified boundaries initially or after enlargement;
  • mirror reflection in horizontal and vertical planes. By flipping the frame, the user can leave the most important part for display, in accordance with the idea, cropping the rest.

Using the tools from the Crop tab, you can rotate and flip the video

Additional program features

Cropping is just one of the many functions of the video editor. "VideoMONTAZH" provides a full set of tools for processing material at both a basic and advanced level.

  • trimming the excess and dividing the video into several parts. To mark the desired area, you can use markers on the timeline or enter exact timing values.

  • applying effects. The program allows you to color the image in a video in different tones, as well as change the brightness, contrast, and color saturation. You will be able to apply various artistic effects to the video, such as imitation of film, a foggy window, or bright sun. Playing with different processing methods will definitely add zest to the project.

  • use of chromakey. This professional technology makes it possible to change the background in a video sequence, overlay files on top of each other, and also add animation. If you wish, you can change the boring background to a raging sea, a tropical forest or a battle of spaceships, or place a magical fairy in the palm of your hand. The program will help you complete these tasks in a few simple steps.

  • improving quality in manual and automatic mode. Enhancement and color correction tools can help correct technical flaws, poor lighting, and hardware setup errors.

  • change playback speed. An ideal tool for creating semantic accents in various scenes of a film. You can speed up or slow down playback simply by moving the slider.

  • sound editing. You can overlay a new audio track on top of the original one or voice the video from scratch. The software allows you to edit the musical accompaniment of both individual files and the entire project.

  • fine tuning of output parameters. The software makes it possible to convert the finished video into any of the supported formats. You can also burn the movie to DVD, reduce the video size, and prepare it for publishing online or for viewing on a mobile device.

The application has a simple and friendly interface, most settings are controlled with a computer mouse, and all changes are available for viewing in the built-in player.

The program works with minimal hardware requirements and also supports the Windows XP version, which is quite rare these days.

The big advantage is complete localization. “VideoMONTAZH”, unlike products such as Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere, is developed in Russian, and on this site you will find a large number of reference materials that will tell you how to work with the program. Download video editing software and create your first professional video today!

Black bars are not a rare occurrence in videos downloaded from the Internet. The reason black bars appear at the edges of a video is that a video with one aspect ratio was saved with a different aspect ratio. So the stripes above and below appear when changing 16:9 –> 4:3. The stripes on the sides are the opposite, 4:3 –> 16:9. In this article we will tell you how you can easily remove this drawback from your video so you can start enjoying watching it. To solve this problem, we will use the Movavi video converter.

Step 1. Install the program

Go to the official website of the company and download the Movavi Video Converter program. Launch the installer and follow the installation instructions. Next, launch the video editor.

Step 2: Adding files

You can add files to the program in two ways: simply drag the video from your computer into the converter’s work area, or click on the “Add files” button and specify the location on your computer.

Step 3. Resize the picture

We need to select the size of the new image. It is calculated based on the current aspect ratio. If there are black stripes at the top and bottom, leave the width unchanged, and the height will be equal to: “X*9/16”, where X is the width. If the stripes are on the sides, then we leave the height unchanged, and calculate the width using the formula: “X * 3/4”, where X is the height.

Step 4: Settings

In the program, select the file saving format. This can be done at the bottom of the working window. There, click on the “Set up conversion format” button (gear icon). We indicate the aspect ratio and the necessary settings as in the screenshot:

  • Frame size;
  • Width and Height;
  • Changing the frame.

Step 5: Save

Now we will figure out how to stretch the screen in cs go without depending on the resolution set in the game and the format of your screen.

Very often you encounter a problem when, with the correct settings and installation of all the necessary video parameters, your cs go picture looks with black side stripes:

In order to remove black bars and stretch the screen in cs go you need to:

The easiest way (if the laptop or monitor supports it) is to stretch the image in the settings of the monitor itself (or laptop screen)

How to remove black bars in cs go - setting up a video card

If you are using an Intel chip in the gaming module

  1. Right-click on the desktop and select “Graphics characteristics”;
  2. After that, select the “Display” tab - setting up our video parameters;
  3. We set the same resolution as in the game itself (if you set it to 800x600), then accordingly we set the same here;
  4. And, of course, in the “Scaling” section we make sure to set it to “full screen”;
  5. We save this whole thing and go into the game.

Do all these steps without the above launch parameters. Here we simply roughly indicate to our screen the value of the points with which it will work. Accordingly, the game will not display side black bars, since the number of pixels in width and height will match the screen settings in the operating system!

Remove black bars (NVIDIA Settings)

If you cannot get to the monitor settings, and there are black bars, then you definitely need to make the following changes on the NVIDIA family video card:

Remove black bars (AMD Settings)

  1. Go to the properties of AMD Graphics;
  2. In the “Games” section we find our favorite CS:GO
  3. Then you need to select “Profile Options”, and then “Display Scaling” and select “Full Panel”;
  4. Go to the Main panel - Graphics management and in the “Display” tab switch to “GPU scaling”

Video in case something went wrong:

How to expand the screen (I use a monitor)

If you are using a monitor, the easiest way would be:

  1. Go to the settings of the monitor itself (the “Menu” button on the monitor);
  2. Open the “Display” tab (or section);
  3. Select display format (4x3). Some monitors use stretch rather than format. Just spread the image in width;

Many monitors will remember this composition and will automatically switch the format in the game. But be sure to do this with the game running.

How to increase viewing angle in cs go

As we said earlier, black bars appear due to a mismatch between the set number of pixels (width*height) in the game and the monitor itself. If you have a powerful laptop/computer, then set the recommended resolution.

Roughly speaking, if your monitor supports 16x9, then give it the maximum number of pixels 1920*1080. This will allow you to display the picture better and let you enjoy the game:

IMPORTANT! Depending on the size of the resolution, you will see different scales in your field of view. The higher the resolution, the larger your field of view:

Expand the game to full screen- in many applications (including cs:go) in order for the game not to be in a window, you need to set the correct parameter in the settings, but if it doesn’t help, then press clt+enter.

From the Authors regarding black bars in cs go

Black bars are distracting and interfere with a comfortable game, but you always need to take into account your viewing angle, as well as the required FPS. The larger the screen extension, the more the video card needs to constantly keep the number of pixels “in good shape.”

Many professional gamers use 4x3 screen resolution for two reasons:

  • Habit from cs 1.6 (there was no wide format of the game);
  • In order to enlarge the enemy model on the screen:

What changes will we get from the stretched image in the game:

  1. They say that it is much easier to hit the enemy (the image of the model is wider);
  2. Accordingly, due to the distorted picture of the game, the sensitivity and speed of mouse movement horizontally will be faster than vertically (you need to get used to this);
  3. Using the entire screen area at different resolutions - you will have a different view;

Black bars on the sides of the screen are a common problem for those who like to game on laptops and rectangular monitors. It's unsightly, inconvenient and distracting. But, fortunately, the problem can always be eliminated. Let's figure out how to stretch 4:3 to the full screen on a laptop.

What does image stretching do?

The settings of the game itself allow you to create a widescreen image. But it simply increases the viewing angle, although it removes the black stripes on the sides. For real treasurers, this is not the most profitable option.

Therefore, you can use another method - stretching. What are its advantages:

  • easier to aim - the enemy visually becomes wider due to image deformation;
  • the mouse begins to move faster sideways, while maintaining vertical speed;
  • aesthetic pleasure - black bars do not distract, the entire screen area is used.

If this is what you need, then let’s start analyzing how to stretch an image in CS GO!

Game and video card settings

How to stretch 4:3 to the entire screen so that it doesn't turn out to be 16:9? Easily. But to do this you will have to go further than the game settings. Now we will learn how to make 4:3 in the form of a rectangle. Even on awkward Windows 10.

First you will have to set the settings that are necessary to stretch the game. This is a 4:3 format (square) with a resolution of 1024x768 pixels, display mode is full screen. All methods work with such a base. After saving the settings, you need to close CS GO.

Then you will have to open the Game Library on Steam and find CS GO among the list. Then right-click on it and open “Properties”. Here we need the “Launch Options” section.

A window will appear with a line into which you need to copy two commands:

-window -noborder

With their help, the game will launch in a window, but without frames. After this, you will have to tinker a little with the settings of the video card itself. In this case, the image outside the game will also be stretched. So, if this option doesn’t suit you on a regular basis, you can either reconfigure it every time before playing, or try other methods.

So, most laptops have an Intel chip installed in addition to an NVidia or AMD video card. We will work through him. Necessary:

  1. Select the line “Graphic characteristics”;
  2. In the new window, click on the square labeled “Display”;
  3. Set the same resolution as the game (1024x768);
  4. At the bottom, find the “Zooming” section and check the “Zoom to full screen” checkbox;
  5. Save the settings and close the panel.

After this, the image will change. You can safely enter the game and enjoy the enlarged models. The result will be a standard 4:3, stretched onto a rectangular monitor. In some cases, especially on Windows 10, there will be no effect.

For NVidia and AMD

Video card drivers allow you to separately configure game stretching. Therefore, you can work through them. But first, we set the standard parameters in the game (4:3 and 1024x768). After which we proceed directly to stretching CS GO 4:3.

  1. Right-click on the desktop;
  2. Select “NVidia Control Panel”;
  3. Find “Adjusting the size and position of the desktop”;
  4. Set the “Full screen” option;
  5. Save settings.

Attention! If there is no such item, you need to reinstall the drivers for the video card. The reduced functionality of the control panel is a problem of crookedly installed drivers.

  1. Similarly, right-click on the desktop;
  2. Select "Graphics Properties" from AMD;
  3. In the window that opens, click on the “Games” tab;
  4. Find in the CS GO list;
  5. Click on “Profile Settings”;
  6. Select “Display scaling” and check “Full panel”;
