What was the beta of the expected WW2 shooter?

A new part is coming out this November Call of Duty, which goes back to the origins of the series. In place of the already fed up future, developers from Sledgehammer Games, authors "Advanced Warfare", put the newly demanded past, namely the bloody World War II. Before release Activision traditionally arranged a beta test for those who pre-ordered the game, where multiplayer was demonstrated.

From the very first match Call of Duty: WWII the main difference between the novelty and the last three or four games is noticeable. The dynamics have changed too. Instead of an adrenaline-fuelled run around multiple spaces with all sorts of gadgets, WWII offers the player a minimal set of fighters: a weapon (primary and secondary), a grenade, and a perk to choose from. Now relying on a successful set of abilities will not work, and skill comes to the fore.

All the action takes place again on small maps, which, however, look quite faded. And the reduced dynamism of the action, even on small maps, makes the search for the enemy sometimes a tedious task.

Despite this, in the new regime "War" there is a lack of space. By the way, he turned out to be a pleasant surprise and a breath of fresh air in the series, especially for those who are already tired of the classic team fights and capture the flag. The essence of the "War" is that one side needs to break through the defenses of the other in the allotted period of time in order to open a further piece of the map.

The main advantage of the mode is that it makes you work in a team. Performing any tasks alone here is a disastrous business in the literal sense of the word, the enemy will quickly destroy you, and you will have to start all over again. But in a team game, the efficiency of the efforts expended noticeably increases, one side or another immediately increases the chances of winning.

The class system has also changed - now five divisions are available in the game, each of which has unique features. By the way, they are presented in a rather unusual way: a separate video is recorded for each, in which the captains demonstrate the advantages of a particular division.

As before, the new "Call of Duty" is not an audiovisual feast, which is, for example, "Battlefield 1". Here, in order to enjoy multiplayer, you need to be in the center of events, because, as usual, there are small maps on which dynamic six-on-six battles take place, and the participation of each player is necessary to win. But this is exactly what fans of the series need, whose ranks can be replenished due to the new successful War mode.

Call of Duty: WWII releases November 3 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. From September 1 to September 4, the second wave of beta testing will take place on consoles.

The Call of Duty: WWII beta has crept up very quietly. And now we are downloading the last gigabytes and are ready to attack on all fronts. It should be noted right away that WWII knows why a future player will launch it.

A couple of clicks and we are already looking for a match. Everything loads pretty quickly. We really hope that in the release version it will also be possible to search for a match without having to visit the notorious "Headquarters". In the first round of testing, the developers decided not to show it, so it was not possible to collect any practical impressions. From a purely theoretical point of view, "Headquarters" could really shake up the series even as a purely cosmetic change at its core. The main thing is the match itself.

First, the cards have become noticeably smaller. Of course, Sledgehammer took into account that there were no more jetpack jumps, but at first glance, the maps seem to have become even smaller than in Modern Warfare, not to mention the insane gigantism of Ghosts. It cannot be called a negative change. On the contrary, matches with fewer participants will only become more interesting, and Deathmatch fans will not care how much meat to chop into stew.

Unfortunately, for the most ambitious mode called War, the modest size of the maps does not bode well. Here, players need to alternately perform various tasks during one match - plant and detonate a bomb, drag cargo, capture a point, and so on. I really want to participate in more or less tactical matches on this topic, but due to the fact that the cards turned out to be modest (at least those shown by the developers), even tense moments often turn into lewdness and mess. Opponents of the rod on the one hand, it happens that you don’t even have time to recharge. And the spawn point is too fast to the scene. Everything is very chamber, modest. I want more tactics and a little more scale.

Secondly, the running speed was slightly reduced, further strengthening the tactical component. According to personal feelings, it turns out even more pleasant than in Modern Warfare Remastered. There is again the beloved feeling that you are not a jet-powered psycho, but a predator who carefully weighs his actions. This is immediately noticeable in the game. Without hesitation, only those who are supposed to run around here - soldiers with shotguns.

It was not possible to properly assess the system of weapon modifications, but, most likely, nothing new awaits us, just the same thing, but taking into account historical realities. Nevertheless, some interesting solutions were found. In WWII, there are now almost full-fledged classes. Unlike Infinite Warfare, they differ from each other in a slightly different way. So, the rewards for several kills in a row are slightly different for each class, plus each class has its own special skills. For example, only the Airborne can use the suppressor, and only the Expeditionary can hurt the shotgun with incendiary rounds. After reaching the first "prestige", a special type of weapon is unlocked, which can then be used with any class. In total, five classes are obtained, which are called "divisions" here. When an impressive-looking officer enters, he will clearly chew on why you should fight under his command.

The choice of weapons was very modest, while both German and American weapons were available from the same pile. I would very much like to see also the weapons of the USSR, which are presented in all their glory in other games on the Second World War. It is also not entirely clear how the standard version of the STG 44 has a red dot sight by default. I would like to see even more customization elements, because they will be clearly divided into two fronts.

The upcoming round of beta testing promises an increased level cap, new weapons, another map and some of the game modes. But again without the "Headquarters". Apparently, it was left as a dessert. So much the better - while Call of Duty: WWII looks very promising despite some conventions. But there are still zombies and a story mode ahead ...
